How this calculator works
Vinyl pricing is mostly about style — a solid privacy panel and an open ranch rail are very different amounts of plastic. This tool prices each, then adjusts for your state.
Style is the main lever
The four styles here span a wide range. Ranch (post-and-rail) uses the least material and is the cheapest. Picket adds spaced slats. Privacy runs solid panels edge to edge — more material, higher cost. Lattice-top privacy adds a decorative lattice section on top and sits at the top of the range. Pick the look first; it sets the budget more than length does at typical sizes.
Why vinyl’s labor share is lower
Vinyl panels cost more than wood boards, but the install — dig holes, set posts, slot in panels — takes similar time. So a bigger slice of a vinyl fence’s price is materials, which is why DIY can save a meaningful amount if you’re precise. The whole system depends on posts set perfectly plumb and on-spacing in concrete; there’s no trimming a vinyl panel to cover a crooked post. Switch to DIY to see materials only, and measure twice before the concrete goes in.
2026 installed vinyl fence cost per linear foot (6 ft)
Style drives vinyl pricing more than anything — a solid privacy panel uses far more material than an open ranch rail.
| Option | Low (per linear ft) | High (per linear ft) | Typical (per linear ft) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vinyl privacy | $28 | $60 | $42 |
| Vinyl picket | $20 | $38 | $27 |
| Vinyl post-and-rail (ranch) | $15 | $30 | $21 |
| Vinyl lattice-top privacy | $32 | $60 | $44 |

Frequently asked questions
How much does a vinyl fence cost in 2026?
Installed vinyl runs about $15–$30 per foot for ranch rail, $20–$38 for picket, $28–$60 for privacy, and $32–$60 for lattice-top privacy. A 150-foot vinyl privacy run with a gate commonly lands around $4,600–$9,400 before state adjustments.
Is vinyl fencing worth the extra cost over wood?
Over the long run, often yes. Vinyl costs more upfront than wood but never needs staining or sealing, won't rot or splinter, and cleans with a hose. If you'd rather not spend weekends maintaining a fence, the higher sticker price buys that back over the years.
Does vinyl fencing crack or fade?
Quality vinyl is UV-stabilized and resists fading and yellowing for decades; cheaper panels can become brittle and discolor faster, which is why the price range is wide. In very cold climates, low-grade vinyl is more prone to cracking on hard impact — buy a reputable product.
Can I install a vinyl fence myself?
Yes — vinyl is one of the more DIY-friendly materials because panels slot into routed posts. The catch is the posts must be set perfectly plumb and on-spacing in concrete, with no room to fudge. Switch to DIY for materials-only pricing; measure and lay out carefully before you set a single post.
How does vinyl compare to aluminum or chain link?
Vinyl gives you solid privacy and a clean look with zero painting; aluminum offers a more open, ornamental style and won't rust; chain link is the cheapest but offers no privacy. Compare with our chain link and all-material fence calculators.
